U.P. and Japan Investment Meet 2026: Over 200 Japanese Delegates to Explore Investment, Technology and Employment Opportunities
Uttar Pradesh is preparing to host a high-level Japanese business delegation comprising more than 200 industry leaders, chief executives, corporate representatives, policymakers and other stakeholders during the U.P.–Japan Investment Meet 2026, scheduled from August 18 to 23. The delegation will be headed by Kotaro Nagasaki, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan.
The investment-focused engagement, being coordinated by Invest UP is aimed at deepening economic cooperation between Japan and Uttar Pradesh and facilitating concrete opportunities in manufacturing, advanced technology, clean energy, semiconductors, digital infrastructure, skill development, tourism and allied sectors.
The six-day programme is designed to move beyond conventional investment discussions by creating a structured platform for Japanese companies to engage directly with government authorities, Indian businesses, industry bodies and academic institutions. The initiative seeks to facilitate new investments, technology collaborations, joint ventures, industrial projects and employment generation in Uttar Pradesh.
Strengthening Japan–Uttar Pradesh Economic Cooperation
The Japanese delegation will be received in New Delhi on August 18 by Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The programme will subsequently cover important economic and institutional centres including New Delhi, Lucknow, Agra, Greater Noida and Varanasi.
The engagement represents a continuation of Uttar Pradesh’s efforts to strengthen its international investment outreach and establish long-term economic partnerships with Japanese companies. The state government intends to leverage the visit to convert business interest into commercially viable projects and long-term industrial cooperation.
The initiative is also aligned with the state’s broader economic objective of strengthening industrial capacity, creating employment opportunities and contributing towards the vision of developing Uttar Pradesh into a $1 trillion economy.
High-Level Business and Government Engagement
The programme will begin in New Delhi on August 19 with a CXO Roundtable and inaugural session at Taj Palace, bringing together senior representatives from government and industry.
Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chauhan, is scheduled to participate in the high-level discussions.
The principal Uttar Pradesh summit will be organised on August 21 at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow. The event will provide a platform for Government-to-Business (G2B) and Business-to-Business (B2B) interactions, enabling investors to understand investment opportunities, regulatory facilitation mechanisms, industrial infrastructure and sector-specific possibilities available in the state.
Representatives of prominent Japanese and India-linked companies are expected to participate, including JETRO, Escorts Kubota, Kubota Corporation Japan, Toshiba India, Motherson Group, Setolas Asia, Honda Trading Corporation India, Daikin Airconditioning India, Sumitomo Corporation India, Spark Minda Toyo Denso and Panasonic.
The discussions are expected to focus on industrial expansion, technology transfer, supply-chain development, manufacturing partnerships and new investment opportunities.
From Investment Commitments to Ground-Level Projects
A significant component of the programme will be the Virtual Ground-Breaking Ceremony for projects associated with Escorts Kubota and Minda Corporation.
The ceremony is important from an implementation perspective as it demonstrates the state’s focus on translating investment proposals and commitments into projects with tangible outcomes. Such projects are expected to strengthen local manufacturing capabilities while generating direct and indirect employment.
Major Projects at YEIDA
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is emerging as a key industrial destination for Japanese companies seeking to establish or expand manufacturing operations in Uttar Pradesh.
Escorts Kubota is undertaking a project in Sector-10 of YEIDA with an investment of ₹2,025 crore. The proposed facility will manufacture tractors, construction equipment and allied products for both domestic consumption and export markets. The project is expected to generate employment for more than 3,800 people.
Minda Corporation is also developing two projects in Sector-10 and Sector-24 of YEIDA. Together, the projects involve an investment of approximately ₹1,166 crore and are expected to create around 6,440 employment opportunities.
The facilities will focus on products such as ignition switch-cum-steering locks, mechatronic components, wiring harnesses and other automotive connection systems.
Combined, the two major projects represent an investment of approximately ₹3,191 crore and have the potential to create more than 10,000 jobs. These investments are expected to contribute significantly to the development of a wider Japanese manufacturing and supplier ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh.
Proposed Japanese Industrial Cluster at YEIDA
To provide a dedicated ecosystem for Japanese enterprises, Uttar Pradesh has identified 500 acres at YEIDA for a proposed Japanese City.
The planned industrial cluster is intended to bring together Japanese manufacturers, component suppliers, ancillary units and supporting businesses. Such clustering can facilitate closer supply-chain integration, improve operational efficiencies and encourage technology and knowledge exchange.
The proposed Japanese City is also expected to support the development of specialised industrial infrastructure and create additional opportunities for domestic enterprises to participate in Japanese-led manufacturing value chains.
Focus on Emerging and Strategic Sectors
The investment meet will cover a broad range of sectors considered important for Uttar Pradesh’s future economic development.
Green Energy and Clean Technology
Discussions will examine opportunities in renewable energy, clean technologies and green hydrogen. The state aims to attract investment in emerging energy solutions while supporting the transition towards sustainable industrial growth.
Manufacturing, Automotive and Electronics
Manufacturing will remain a major area of cooperation, with emphasis on automobile components, electronics, advanced manufacturing and semiconductors.
Japanese expertise in precision manufacturing, engineering, automotive technology and industrial processes could support the expansion of Uttar Pradesh’s manufacturing base and strengthen its participation in global supply chains.
Digital Infrastructure
The programme will also explore investment prospects in Global Capability Centres (GCCs), data centres and digital infrastructure. These sectors are expected to contribute to technology-driven employment and enhance the state’s digital economic ecosystem.
Skills and Workforce Development
Skill development and human-resource preparedness will form another important pillar of the engagement. Proposed cooperation includes technical training, industry-academia partnerships and development of industry-ready talent.
Such initiatives can help bridge the gap between academic education and industrial requirements while creating a skilled workforce capable of supporting advanced manufacturing and technology-intensive industries.
Tourism and Cultural Cooperation
Tourism will also feature prominently in the Japan–Uttar Pradesh engagement, particularly through opportunities associated with the Buddhist Circuit, including Varanasi, Sarnath and Kushinagar.
The state intends to explore Japanese participation in hospitality, tourism infrastructure and civic facilities along important cultural and Buddhist destinations.
Agra will showcase opportunities related to tourism development and smart civic infrastructure, while Galgotias University in Greater Noida will facilitate academic and industry interactions focusing on technical education, workforce preparation and industry-oriented skills.
Participation of Uttar Pradesh Government
Senior members of the Uttar Pradesh government are expected to participate in the investment programme. These include Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna, Industries Minister Nand Gopal Gupta, Minister of State for Industrial Development and Parliamentary Affairs Jaswant Singh Saini, and IIDC Deepak Kumar.
Senior officials from departments dealing with finance, industries, information technology and electronics will also participate in discussions with the Japanese delegation.
Their involvement is expected to provide investors with greater clarity regarding policy support, industrial infrastructure, investment facilitation and sector-specific opportunities in the state.
Building a Long-Term Investment Partnership
The U.P.–Japan Investment Meet 2026 represents a strategic effort to deepen economic relations between Uttar Pradesh and Japan through investment facilitation, industrial cooperation and technology partnerships.
The state government’s approach is focused not merely on attracting investment proposals but also on facilitating their conversion into operational projects, manufacturing capacity and employment opportunities.
With major projects already progressing at YEIDA and a dedicated Japanese City being planned, Uttar Pradesh is seeking to establish a stronger and more integrated Japanese industrial ecosystem.
The programme is expected to further strengthen cooperation in manufacturing, clean energy, digital technologies, semiconductors, skills and tourism. By combining Japanese technological capabilities with Uttar Pradesh’s expanding industrial infrastructure, workforce base and large domestic market, the partnership could support new avenues of economic growth.
Overall, the investment meet underscores Uttar Pradesh’s efforts to position itself as a competitive global investment destination. The state’s emphasis on infrastructure, skilled manpower, technology adoption, industrial clusters and policy facilitation is aimed at creating an enabling environment for long-term investment and sustainable employment generation.
The Japan–Uttar Pradesh partnership, therefore, is expected to evolve from investment dialogue towards deeper industrial collaboration, supporting the state’s broader economic transformation and its long-term development objectives.
