India on Course to Become One of the World’s Top Three Economies: Rajnath Singh
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed confidence that India is on course to emerge as one of the world’s three largest economies, underlining the country’s economic resilience and growing domestic capabilities. Speaking at an event in Patradevi village in North Goa, Singh stated that India is already among the world’s top five economies and is expected to achieve the top-three position in the near future.
Singh attributed India’s economic progress to sustained development, strengthening domestic production and greater self-reliance. He highlighted the expansion of indigenous manufacturing capabilities, particularly in strategic sectors, as an important component of India’s broader economic and national development objectives.
The Defence Minister also pointed to significant growth in India’s defence production and exports. According to his remarks, defence production has increased to around ₹1.80 lakh crore, while defence exports have risen substantially from their earlier levels. He emphasised that India is progressively transitioning from being primarily a defence importer to becoming an emerging exporter in the global defence manufacturing ecosystem.
The government’s emphasis on domestic manufacturing and technological capabilities is aimed at strengthening economic resilience, reducing dependence on imports and creating opportunities for investment, employment and innovation. These measures also support the broader objective of building an Atmanirbhar Bharat with stronger industrial and strategic capacities.
Singh further highlighted the increasing participation of women in defence, space, entrepreneurship and other development sectors. He described their expanding role as an important indicator of India’s social and economic transformation.
He also called upon citizens, particularly the youth, to contribute to nation-building by upholding constitutional values, respecting the law, strengthening national unity and placing the national interest above individual considerations.
Overall, the statement reflects the government’s emphasis on economic growth, indigenous production, technological advancement and inclusive participation as key pillars of India’s long-term development trajectory.
