The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Vivek Kumar Dewangan, a 1993-batch IAS officer of the Manipur cadre, as Secretary of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The appointment was notified by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on September 5, 2026. 

Administrative Profile: Dewangan brings extensive experience in both state and central administration, with assignments spanning power, energy, finance, rural development, education, commerce and other governance sectors. He has also served as Chairman and Managing Director of REC Limited.

New Responsibility: In his new role, Dewangan will oversee the administrative functioning of the NCSC and support its constitutional mandate of monitoring safeguards for Scheduled Castes, examining complaints concerning rights and safeguards, and coordinating with government departments and state authorities.

Governance Significance: The appointment strengthens administrative leadership within the NCSC and brings an experienced senior civil servant into an institution focused on social justice, constitutional safeguards and inclusive governance.
