PM Modi Assures Support to Space Startups, Calls for Solutions to Everyday Needs
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured the government’s continued support to India’s emerging space startups and urged entrepreneurs to focus on developing practical technologies that address everyday needs of citizens.
The Prime Minister highlighted the growing role of the private sector in strengthening India’s space ecosystem. He emphasised that innovation in space technology should not remain limited to scientific exploration but should translate into applications that improve public services, economic productivity and the quality of life.
The government has been promoting greater participation of startups and private enterprises in the space sector through policy reforms, institutional support and an enabling regulatory environment. These measures are aimed at encouraging innovation, attracting investment and creating new opportunities across the space value chain.
PM Modi stressed the importance of developing indigenous solutions in areas such as communication, navigation, agriculture, disaster management, weather forecasting and connectivity. Space-based technologies can support better planning and delivery of governance services, particularly in remote and underserved regions.
The Prime Minister also encouraged space entrepreneurs to identify challenges faced by ordinary citizens and develop scalable, affordable and technology-driven solutions. Such an approach can strengthen the link between advanced research and grassroots development.
The expanding startup ecosystem is expected to contribute to employment generation, technological capability and India’s emergence as a competitive player in the global space economy. Greater collaboration among government institutions, startups, research organisations and industry can further accelerate innovation.
The government’s focus, therefore, is not only on expanding India’s capabilities in space exploration but also on ensuring that space technology becomes an important instrument of inclusive development, public service delivery and economic growth.
