National

India’s campaign at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya has gained significant momentum with strong performances in shooting and kabaddi strengthening the country’s medal prospects. By September 25, India’s medal tally had reached 19, comprising two gold, eight silver and nine bronze medals. Shooting has emerged as a major contributor, accounting for nine medals so far.

A major highlight came from the 10m air pistol mixed-team event, where Kamaljeet and Suruchi Inder Singh secured gold for India. The pair topped qualification before maintaining their advantage in the final, delivering India’s first shooting gold of the Games. India also added a silver in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event through Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil and Niraj Kumar.

Kabaddi has further strengthened India’s position. The women’s team defeated Nepal 48-24 in the semifinal, while the men’s team overcame Thailand 66-28 to enter the final. Both teams are therefore one victory away from gold, keeping India’s defence of its kabaddi titles firmly in focus.

The broader significance extends beyond the medal count. Consistent performances across shooting, kabaddi and other disciplines underline the depth of India’s sporting pipeline and the growing importance of structured preparation, competitive exposure and high-performance support.

With several medal events still underway, India’s Asian Games campaign remains active across multiple sports. The performances in Aichi-Nagoya provide an important competitive benchmark for Indian sport while keeping attention on sustained athlete development and international-level performance.
