PhonePe Partners with MeitY to Support PM GatiShakti through Hyperlocal Transactions
PhonePe has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to support the objectives of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan through the use of hyperlocal transaction data.
The partnership aims to strengthen data-driven planning and improve the understanding of economic activity at the local level. Hyperlocal transaction insights generated through digital payments can provide valuable information on consumption patterns, commercial activity and emerging economic centres.
Under the collaboration, relevant transaction-based insights are expected to support evidence-based policymaking and infrastructure planning. Such data can complement existing government datasets and help identify local demand patterns, business clusters and areas requiring improved connectivity and public infrastructure.
The initiative aligns with the broader objectives of PM GatiShakti, which seeks to promote integrated and coordinated infrastructure development by bringing different sectors and government departments onto a common planning framework.
The use of aggregated and privacy-conscious digital transaction insights can contribute to more efficient allocation of resources and better alignment between infrastructure development and economic activity. It may also help policymakers assess the impact of connectivity and infrastructure investments on local economies.
The MoU represents an important step towards strengthening public-private collaboration in digital governance.
