President to Address the Nation on Eve of 80th Independence Day
President Droupadi Murmu will address the nation on August 14, 2026, on the eve of India’s 80th Independence Day. The address is an important constitutional communication that precedes the national celebration and provides an opportunity to reflect on India’s democratic journey, development priorities and collective responsibilities.
According to the Press Information Bureau, the President’s address will be broadcast from 7:00 PM through the entire national network of All India Radio (Akashvani). Doordarshan will telecast the address across all its channels, with the Hindi version followed by the English version.
To ensure wider accessibility and regional outreach, Doordarshan’s regional channels will subsequently broadcast the address in regional languages. Akashvani will also transmit regional-language versions through its respective regional networks at 9:30 PM.
The Presidential address is expected to provide a broader national perspective on India’s progress and the responsibilities of citizens and institutions in strengthening the country’s democratic and constitutional framework. It also assumes significance as the nation marks another milestone in its post-Independence journey.
The broadcast arrangements by public service broadcasters underline the government’s emphasis on ensuring that the President’s message reaches citizens across linguistic and geographical regions. The address will therefore serve as a key national communication ahead of Independence Day celebrations, reinforcing themes of constitutional values, national unity, inclusive development, public participation and responsible citizenship.
