BHEL and ARAI Strengthen Cooperation for E-Mobility Projects
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has entered into a cooperation agreement with the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) to promote and strengthen collaboration in the field of electric mobility.
The partnership seeks to leverage the complementary capabilities of both organisations. BHEL brings expertise in technology development, engineering and implementation, while ARAI provides advanced facilities and technical capabilities in the design, testing and certification of automotive and mobility products.
The collaboration is expected to generate synergies in developing and implementing solutions for electric buses and trolley buses, electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, batteries and charging systems. It will also support testing and validation of emerging e-mobility technologies in line with applicable technical and safety standards.
From a governance and public-policy perspective, the initiative represents an institutional approach towards strengthening India’s domestic electric mobility ecosystem. Greater coordination between public-sector technological capabilities and specialised automotive research institutions can contribute to technology development, standardisation, testing capacity and faster deployment of EV-related solutions.
The partnership is also aligned with the broader objective of promoting clean transportation, energy efficiency, indigenous technological capabilities and sustainable mobility infrastructure. Such collaborations can support the transition towards lower-emission transport systems while strengthening India’s capacity in EV technology and associated infrastructure.
