UP Plans International Trade City in Noida to Turn Export Ecosystem into a Global Marketplace

Economy & FinancePolicy Analysis

Uttar Pradesh is planning an International Trade City in the Noida region to strengthen the state’s export ecosystem, expand market access for MSMEs and position the state as a major global trading hub. The proposed project being planned within the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area, is envisaged on the lines of China’s Yiwu International Trade City.

The proposed Trade City will create an organised, one-stop marketplace where manufacturers, traders and exporters can showcase products, connect with domestic and international buyers and facilitate trade and export transactions. The initiative is expected to particularly benefit Uttar Pradesh’s vast MSME base, which is estimated at around 9.5 million enterprises.

The project also aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s broader export expansion strategy. At the UP International Trade Show 2026, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the state’s ambition to increase annual exports from around ₹2 lakh crore to ₹5 lakh crore by 2030.

Infrastructure-Led Export Governance
The location provides a strategic advantage because of its proximity to the Noida International Airport at Jewar which was inaugurated in March 2026 with Phase-I investment of around ₹11,200 crore. The airport is expected to strengthen air connectivity and logistics access for exporters and international buyers.

The Trade City is also expected to strengthen the One District One Product (ODOP) ecosystem by providing traditional products, handicrafts and region-specific goods with a dedicated platform for international buyers.

Why It Matters

The initiative represents a shift from fragmented export promotion towards an integrated trade, logistics and market-access ecosystem. Alongside product display and trading, the project could generate opportunities in warehousing, packaging, transportation, marketing and export-related services. For Uttar Pradesh, the strategic objective is clear: convert its large manufacturing and MSME base into sustained global market participation and support the state’s wider ambition of becoming a $1-trillion economy.
