President Confers Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships and Awards for 2024 and 2025
President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships and Awards for the years 2024 and 2025 on distinguished artists at a ceremony held in New Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, the President said that artists representing Indian traditions are the custodians of the country’s collective memory and creators of its cultural future. She highlighted their contribution to preserving and transmitting India’s diverse cultural heritage across generations.
The President noted that the awardees collectively represent a rich cultural map of India, encompassing the stories and songs rooted in the country’s soil, its diverse dances and festivals, and memories preserved through languages and dialects that have evolved over centuries.
She emphasised that Indian culture remains deeply rooted in its traditions, while reflecting the country’s diversity through varied cuisines, attire, dance forms, music and artistic expressions inspired by nature.
The conferment of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships and Awards recognises the sustained contribution of eminent artists to the fields of music, dance, theatre and traditional performing arts. The honours also underline the importance of safeguarding India’s intangible cultural heritage and ensuring its continued transmission to future generations.
The event reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to promoting India’s cultural diversity, supporting creative practitioners and strengthening the institutional framework for the preservation and promotion of the country’s performing arts traditions.
