OneTag Enables Seamless FASTag Bank Switching
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has launched OneTag, a new initiative aimed at making FASTag management more convenient for vehicle owners across India. The initiative seeks to address a common challenge faced by FASTag users who wish to change their issuing bank but do not want to replace the FASTag affixed to their vehicle.
Under the new system, users can switch their FASTag service provider without changing the existing tag, helping reduce inconvenience and paperwork. The initiative is expected to strengthen interoperability, consumer convenience and digital mobility services within India’s electronic toll collection ecosystem.
OneTag represents a step towards creating a more flexible and user-centric toll payment framework. By allowing the existing FASTag to remain in use during a bank transition, the system can support smoother account management while reducing dependence on physical tag replacement.
The initiative also aligns with the government’s broader focus on digital public infrastructure and technology-enabled transport governance. FASTag has played an important role in promoting cashless toll payments, improving transaction efficiency and supporting faster movement of vehicles at toll plazas.
The introduction of OneTag is expected to further enhance the user experience by giving motorists greater flexibility in choosing their banking service. It reflects an evolving approach to citizen-centric digital governance, where technology is being used to simplify everyday transportation-related services.
With India continuing to expand digital solutions across highways and mobility networks, OneTag could contribute to a more seamless, interoperable and efficient FASTag ecosystem, supporting the wider objective of modernising road transport services and improving convenience for millions of road users.
