UP’s ‘Shiksha Ki Udaan’ Gives 1 Lakh Rural Students Dedicated Study Spaces
Uttar Pradesh has expanded its focus on improving learning conditions at home through the Shiksha Ki Udaan campaign, under which one lakh meritorious students across the four districts of Devipatan Division have received study tables.
The initiative, implemented across Bahraich, Gonda, Balrampur and Shravasti is aimed at creating dedicated study spaces for children from rural backgrounds and strengthening a culture of disciplined learning beyond the classroom. The campaign also covers all girl students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas.
The scale of implementation is reflected in the district-wise distribution. Bahraich received the highest allocation with 34,260 study tables followed by Gonda with 27,650, Balrampur with 26,984 and Shravasti with 11,106. According to Divisional Commissioner Durga Shakti Nagpal, the division has achieved the targeted distribution of one lakh tables.
The intervention has also generated a direct response from beneficiaries. Students including Swati, Saba and Nuzhat Fatima sent handwritten gratitude letters to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, describing how having a designated study table has made studying at home more convenient and helped them concentrate on homework and revision.
Several children used drawings, flowers and handwritten messages to express their experiences. Some depicted themselves studying at the new tables, while others incorporated messages such as Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao and Sab Padhein-Sab Badhein.
From a governance perspective, the initiative links educational performance with household-level learning infrastructure. By providing a fixed study space to high-performing government-school students, the programme seeks to support regular study habits, encourage academic achievement and strengthen the learning environment for rural children.
