Hinduja Group Plans ₹1,000 Crore-Plus Investment Push in Uttar Pradesh

Governance & Public PolicyPolicy Analysis

The Hinduja Group is set to deepen its investment footprint in Uttar Pradesh with proposed investments of more than ₹1,000 crore, signalling growing private-sector confidence in the state’s mobility, renewable energy and digital connectivity ecosystem.

Hinduja Group leadership met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday and briefed him on the group’s ongoing operations as well as its proposed expansion plans in the state. The investment pipeline includes a proposed pumped-storage project, along with initiatives in mobility, renewable energy and digital connectivity.

According to the information shared with the state government, the group is also planning a major capacity expansion at its Ashok Leyland facility in Lucknow. The company intends to increase annual production capacity from around 2,500 vehicles to 5,000 vehicles within the next six to seven months. The facility was inaugurated in January 2026, making the proposed expansion an early indication of efforts to scale up manufacturing activity in Uttar Pradesh.

The mobility investment is particularly significant for the state’s industrial strategy as higher commercial-vehicle production can strengthen local supply chains, generate employment and expand opportunities for ancillary manufacturers and MSMEs.

The proposed pumped-storage investment also carries strategic importance. Energy-storage infrastructure can support renewable-energy integration while improving grid flexibility and reliability, strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s broader clean-energy transition.

For Uttar Pradesh, the Hinduja Group’s expansion goes beyond a single industrial project. It reflects the state’s attempt to position itself as a diversified investment destination where manufacturing, clean energy and digital infrastructure converge. If implemented on schedule, these projects could add to the state’s industrial capacity while creating a wider ecosystem of suppliers, services and skilled employment.

The larger governance takeaway is clear: Uttar Pradesh is increasingly competing for investment not only through incentives but through an integrated infrastructure-and-industry ecosystem.
