UP Opens New Government Recruitment Pathway for Former Agniveers

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved a 20% horizontal reservation for former Agniveers in direct recruitment to the posts of Jail Warder and Enforcement Constable in the Transport Department. The measure is aimed at creating a structured transition from short-term military service to civilian government employment.

Under the policy, the reservation will operate within the social category to which an eligible former Agniveer belongs. The Cabinet has also approved a three-year relaxation in the maximum age limit, with the period of military service taken into account while determining eligibility.

The decision expands the state’s existing employment support framework for Agniveers and creates an institutional pathway for candidates who complete their four-year military tenure. By directing the benefit towards selected posts involving enforcement, administration and public-security functions, the policy seeks to utilise the discipline, training and operational experience acquired during military service.
