NRDC–ONGC MoU to Accelerate Commercialisation of Energy Technologies
The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in technology evaluation, development, transfer and commercialisation in the energy sector.
The partnership seeks to establish a structured mechanism for identifying technologies developed through ONGC’s research ecosystem and assessing their potential for wider industrial deployment. NRDC will contribute its expertise in technology assessment, intellectual-property management, licensing and commercialisation, while ONGC will provide its research capabilities and technical expertise in petroleum exploration and related energy operations.
The MoU is expected to help bridge the gap between laboratory-level research and market-ready solutions by supporting technologies through development, validation and technology-transfer stages. This can strengthen the institutional framework for converting research outcomes into commercially viable applications.
The agreement was exchanged in Dehradun by NRDC Chairman and Managing Director Commodore Amit Rastogi (Retd.) and Tarun Kumar Mathuria, Executive Director and Chief of the Keshava Deva Malaviya Institute of Petroleum Exploration (KDMIPE), ONGC. Senior officials from both organisations were also present.
From a governance perspective, the collaboration represents a step towards innovation-led technology commercialisation, stronger public-sector R&D linkages and greater utilisation of indigenous technological capabilities. It can also support the broader objective of improving technological capacity and efficiency across India’s energy ecosystem.
The specific technologies, investment commitments and implementation timelines under the MoU have not yet been publicly disclosed.
