Chitrakoot: Rising Mandakini Water Levels Trigger Flood-Like Conditions

Rising water levels in the Mandakini River have created flood-like conditions in several low-lying areas of Chitrakoot, following heavy rainfall across the region. The situation has affected areas around Ram Ghat and Nirmohi Akhada, prompting authorities to intensify monitoring and precautionary measures. 

The river reportedly reached an unprecedented level of around 135.2 metres, surpassing the previous recorded high of 134.5 metres in 2003. Several villages and residential areas have been affected, while more than 400 people have been evacuated to safer locations as part of ongoing disaster-response efforts. 

The district administration and disaster-response teams have been deployed to manage the situation. Police are using drone surveillance to monitor flood-affected areas and track changes in the river’s water level. Relief camps have also been established to provide shelter and essential assistance to affected residents. 

Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow official instructions. Road infrastructure has also been affected at some locations, with officials undertaking inspections and repair measures to restore safe connectivity. 

The administration continues to closely monitor the situation, with emphasis on public safety, timely evacuation, disaster preparedness, relief distribution and restoration of essential infrastructure.
