Joint Statement on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s State Visit to Uzbekistan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a State Visit to Uzbekistan from 29–30 August 2026 at the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The two leaders held comprehensive discussions on bilateral, regional and international issues and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening India-Uzbekistan relations.
The joint statement highlighted the objective of elevating bilateral cooperation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with emphasis on long-term and mutually beneficial development. Both sides identified priority areas including trade and investment, transport connectivity, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, space, cybersecurity, energy transition, critical minerals, food security, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and education.
In the economic sector, India and Uzbekistan agreed to promote greater business-to-business cooperation, strengthen value chains and expand opportunities in engineering products, electrical goods, automobiles and pharmaceuticals. Cooperation in e-commerce, digitalisation of trade procedures and support for small and medium enterprises was also emphasised.
The two countries also agreed to deepen cooperation in high technology and AI, including the development of safe, secure and trustworthy AI systems. Space cooperation, scientific data exchange and capacity-building were identified as additional areas for practical collaboration.
The statement further recognised the importance of historical, cultural and civilisational ties between the two nations. Both sides welcomed the 2026–2030 Cultural Exchange Programme and initiatives to strengthen cooperation in archives, education, healthcare and traditional medicine.
The leaders reaffirmed the importance of regional and multilateral cooperation and supported a free, open and rules-based international order. India also welcomed Uzbekistan’s interest in joining the International Solar Alliance and International Big Cat Alliance. Prime Minister Modi invited President Mirziyoyev to visit India, with dates to be decided through diplomatic channels.
