UP Clears 51 New Food-Processing Projects, Deepening Investment and Enterprise Expansion

Governance & Public PolicyPolicy Analysis

Uttar Pradesh has approved 51 new food-processing project proposals following a meeting of the State-Level Empowered Committee under the Uttar Pradesh Food Processing Industry Policy. The approvals signal a wider policy push to expand value addition, processing capacity and enterprise-led growth across the state’s agri-food economy.

The committee meeting, chaired by Food Processing Commissioner and committee chairman Deepak Kumar, reviewed project progress, new investment proposals, financial incentives and issues related to entrepreneurs. The approved proposals span a diverse range of activities, including integrated food processing, cold chains, dehydrated fruits and vegetables, sweets and namkeen, bakery and ice-cream units, potato processing, dairy and milk products, spice processing and other food-based manufacturing activities.
The committee also cleared proposals for solar-powered food-processing units, along with projects involving ready-to-eat products, flour, spices, pulses, rice milling, soy products, bread, fruit juices, processed fruits and vegetables, and jaggery-based units.

MSME Financing Push
The meeting also reviewed implementation of the Prime Minister Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme in Uttar Pradesh. According to the information published in the report, 28,356 units have so far been sanctioned for loans while 24,883 units have received subsidy support amounting to ₹1,040 crore.

The scale of approvals indicates a policy architecture increasingly linking agricultural production with processing, formalisation and market-oriented enterprise development. Expansion of processing infrastructure can help create local value chains while supporting MSMEs engaged in food manufacturing and allied activities.

The state also recognised Udyami Mitra awardees for their contribution to enterprise development, underscoring the government’s emphasis on facilitation and implementation alongside financial support.
