STHAVAR: Why Every Indian Built Asset Needs a Permanent Digital Identity
India’s rapid expansion of digital public infrastructure has transformed the delivery of identity, payments, taxation, documentation, logistics and public services. However, a similar digital foundation is required for the country’s physical assets—including buildings, roads, bridges, industrial facilities, utilities and other infrastructure.
The concept of STHAVAR, centred on assigning a permanent digital identity to built assets, can strengthen this missing layer of governance. At present, information relating to the same asset may be distributed across land records, building approvals, property-tax systems, utility databases, project-monitoring platforms and departmental portals. This fragmentation can create duplication, data gaps and challenges in tracking an asset throughout its lifecycle.
