PM Modi Inaugurates AI-Powered ‘Param Pragya’ Supercomputing Facility at IIT Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Param Pragya’ an AI-powered supercomputing facility at IIT Delhi’s Sonepat Campus, marking a significant step towards strengthening India’s high-performance computing and research ecosystem. The facility was inaugurated during IIT Delhi’s 57th Convocation and is aimed at expanding computational capabilities for advanced scientific research and innovation.
The deployment of Param Pragya reflects the Government’s focus on building indigenous technological capabilities, research infrastructure and digital capacity. Developed in the broader framework of the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), such high-performance computing infrastructure enables researchers and academic institutions to undertake complex simulations, data-intensive research and AI-driven applications.

The facility is expected to support research across multidisciplinary areas, including artificial intelligence, climate and weather modelling, healthcare, computational science, engineering and advanced data analytics. By providing enhanced computing resources to researchers, the initiative can accelerate innovation and strengthen collaboration between academia, government and industry.
From a governance perspective, the initiative represents an important investment in technology-led public infrastructure and knowledge-based development. The National Supercomputing Mission has already enabled researchers and institutions across India to access advanced computing facilities, while also contributing to the development of skilled human resources in high-performance computing.
